Silver Patina Formula (Note: This solution will last for one to two months, then it will not work.)
A silver patina has traditionally been done only as a hot patina, however, this formula is to be applied cold. It takes about an hour for this patina to work. The surface of the metal must be very clean and should be buffed or polished. Be sure to remove all of the polishing compound. Apply the patina solution and let sit for an hour. The surface may have a white chalky powder on it. Rinse off with water; use a soft rag if necessary. If the patina is not silver enough, reapply and repeat the process as before. When finished, spray on a lacquer so the silver will not tarnish. Silver Patina Formula (Note: This solution will last for one to two months, then it will not work.) One quart distilled water 20 grams Silver Nitrate 1 10 grams salt (sodium chloride) 45 grams Sodium Thiosulfate
Beware this solution will turn your hands black...
