Permalac SR – Satin or Matte

Scratch-Resistant, Low-VOC Clear Topcoat

Permalac SR is a high-performance, one-part clear topcoat designed to provide superior scratch resistance and long-lasting protection over metal, wood, stone, and previously lacquered surfaces. It is fully compliant with VOC regulations, including California state guidelines, and is available in both Satin and Matte finishes.

Use it as the final protective layer over a cured base of Permalac coatings—two coats of Permalac NT or three coats of Permalac Original/EF are recommended for best results.


Features

Application Instructions

  1. Allow base coats to cure for 1 hour before applying Permalac SR.

  2. Apply 1 wet coat using an HVLP spray gun with a 1.3–1.4 mm tip.

  3. Use 20–25 PSI for proper atomization.


Curing Times

  • Touch Dry: 15 minutes (0.25 hr); recoat within 0.5–1 hr

  • Scratch-Resistant: 24 hours (allow 72 hours before handling or shipping)

  • Full Handling Cure: 72 hours

  • Force Cure (IR Lamp):

    • 2 hours at 150°F

    • or 30 minutes at 220°F


Reducer / Thinning

No thinner required under normal conditions.
Use reducer only when environmental conditions demand it:

  • If above 85°F: Use NT low-odor thinner at 1:8

  • If humidity exceeds 75% or dew point is within 5°F of ambient: Use #500 thinner at 1:20

  • Do NOT use Xylene (not recommended)

Cleaning Solvent: Acetone, MEK, or NT low-odor thinner


Performance Data (from TDS testing)

(All tests performed on mild steel with 3 coats of Permalac NT + 1 coat Permalac SR.)

  • Matte Gloss @ 85°: 12–16 GU

  • Satin Gloss @ 60°: 45–55 GU

  • Pencil Hardness: 4H

  • Crosshatch Adhesion: No visible lifting

  • Salt Spray (6 days, 5% NaCl): Only 0.5 mm rust penetration from score line
