Gypsum Plaster Accelerators are additives that shorten the setting times for gypsum plaster and setting-type joint compounds by causing gypsum crystals to form at a much faster rate. Safe and easy-to-use, USG Gypsum Plaster Accelerators are available in the following formulations:

  • USG Standard Strength Gypsum Plaster Accelerator reduces set times for veneer and conventional plasters by 10 to 30 minutes
  • USG Accelerator —  helps correct plaster dry-out conditions

Gypsum Plaster Retarders extend the set time of conventional plasters, veneer plasters, lime finish plasters and setting-type joint compounds. By slowing the chemical crystal formation that causes gypsum plaster to set or harden, Gypsum Plaster Retarders allow more time to complete each job. Gypsum Plaster Retarders easily disperse into water prior to adding plaster and are available in the following formulations:

  • Standard Strength Retarder is recommended for slight to moderate (30 to 45 minutes) lengthening of set times for veneer and conventional plasters and setting-type joint compounds
  • Retarder for Lime-Containing Plaster Products is designed for use with Diamond® Veneer Finish, Red Top® Brand Finish Plaster andRed Top® Gauging Plaster and Lime Finishes
