260822 Sculpting the Figure in Clay 2 Day Workshop With Chad Fisher August 22-23

2 Day Class in the summer!

August 22-23 10am-6pm with an hour break for lunch

Working directly from a live model and using a step by step approach, students can choose to sculpt the full figure, torso, or portrait bust.

In this course students of all levels will sculpt from direct observation of a model in one pose over 2 class sessions.  Students will learn a logical approach to developing the observational skills needed to create an accurate and dynamic figure sculpture. No previous experience is necessary.

The sculpture will be created in water-based

This workshop will introduce students to the process and techniques of figurative sculpture.

Students will sculpt from a live model over a 2 day period, 12 hours, with an emphasis on gesture, volume, proportions, anatomy, and model likeness.

Each student will complete one 24-inch figure in water-based clay. The concepts of the golden section and dynamic symmetry will be introduced, along with historical design elements and the discover of anatomical rhythms. Throughout this workshop, students will be guided by instructor led demonstrations and individual and group critiques, which integrate authentic ancient Greek and 19th-centry figurative sculpture principles.

Complementing the class, are discussions about the phenomenological approach to observing figures throughout

The teaching method will include, sculpting demonstrations, individual instruction, and group discussions.

Each step will be demonstrated and guided throughout the class. The small class structure will enable more one on one attention to students

Materials List:

•  PA White Earthenware Clay 27.6lb (1 box)

• Clay modeling tools

• Small water-spray bottle and Plastic wrap if working with water-based clay

• Tinfoil if working with oil-based clay

• Clay cutting wire

• Plastic trash bag to cover sculpture

• Armature 24"

You may bring your own or all items may also be purchased on site
