Description
Nikolas #8321 Clear Lacquer is a “water-white”, air drying, solvent based coating. It will produce a quality protective coating for brass, silver and other solid and plated materials. #8321 Lacquer is particularly suited for exterior protection of non-ferrous metal.

Suggested Uses:
#8321 Lacquer is used on jewelry, lamps, and exterior lighting fixtures and signage. It offers superior protection on brass fixtures for the boating industry, both freshwater and saltwater. It is also used to protect anodized aluminum and silver goods.

Drying

Directions for Use: Preparation

Surface must be dry and chemically clean. Any oxidation as well as grease and compounds should be removed.

RECOMMENDED FILM THICKNESS:
Wet: 1.0–3.0 mils (should be applied in multiple coats)
Dry: .5–1.5 mils

#8321 Lacquer can be sprayed, dipped or used in a centrifugal machine. Before applying make sure that the metal has been chemically cleaned and degreased.

Spray:
Typical reduction for spraying is suggested at one part lacquer to one part #2105 Thinner. Use 40–50 psi. Cover piece with one coat making sure not to produce a misty or dry spray appearance. Allow to set-up for approximately 50 seconds. Then make a second pass, preferable at right angles to the first coat.

Dip & Centrifuge:
For dip or centrifugal application use 60% thinner, 40% lacquer. Retarder may be added to the above mixtures at two to eight ounces per gallon of lacquer as needed to aid in flow out and blush resistance. Maintain a viscosity of 16.5–18 seconds in a #2 Zahn cup.

Curing:
With all applications allow #8321 Lacquer to air dry at least 30 minutes before handling or packing (if plastic wrap is to be used for packaging, check with the supplier to make sure it will be compatible with acrylic lacquer). The drying process can be accelerated by force drying at 120–140°F for 10–15 minutes. Products finished with #8321 can be successfully engraved.

Precautions

If too thin a film has been applied by dip or spray, a “rainbow” or multicolored reflection may appear on parts. Add more lacquer to the mix and reapply. If a noticeable “orange peel” is prevalent, add more thinner to the mixture and reapply.

Safety

Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with skin. Avoid prolonged breathing of vapor or spray mist. Do not take internally. KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
Before smoking or eating and after using, cleanse hands thoroughly. Keep container closed when not in use.

Effects of Overexposure:
Prolonged use may cause mild irritation to eyes.

Skin Contact:
Can cause irritation, may be absorbed through the skin and cause defatting.

Inhalation:
May cause respiratory irritation, dizziness and drowsiness.
