Schedule:
Day 1:
* Begin with a demonstration of how to start a block in a sketch for a portrait during the first hour, followed by sculpting alongside the students.
* * Start a 3/4 life-sized portrait to assess everyone’s comfort level and familiarity with clay.
Day 2-3:
* Once the block-in achieves a strong sense of likeness and proportion, introduce more delicate surface treatment or "skin-like" textures.
* Demonstrate my preferred method while encouraging students to explore their own techniques.
Material included in the class:

  • Water-based clay
  • 15" Head Armature with base
  • oil-based clay is available for an additional fee of $120.

Things you should bring:

  • clay tools (also available for purchase on site)
  • clothes to sculpt in that you don't mind getting dirty
  • your sculpting energy!!!!



“Bio:
Kaelin Palcu is an internationally acclaimed sculptor, born in Toronto in 1994. Her training spans a BFA in Sculpture and Installation from OCAD University, a four year bronze-casting apprenticeship, the Florence Academy of Art and Barcelona Academy of Art where she taught and learned how to sculpt the figure from life, and an MFA in Drawing from the New York Academy of Art, where she received multiple honors including the Sculpture Scholar Award, David Schafer Artists of Excellence Scholarship, Service Scholar Award, Patron Scholarship, and LCU Scholarship. Palcu has exhibited internationally and earned an Honorable Mention in the 2023 ARC Salon competition. Her public commissions comprise the Waterton National Park Visitor Centre, Reconciliation Totem Pole at UBC, and Shaman's Dream at the University of Manitoba. She now lives and teaches in New York and is preparing for several exhibitions in 2025.”
