Why Work With Super Sculpey Ultralight™?
There are several reasons why sculptors familiar with Sculpey® reach for Super Sculpey Ultralight™. This clay offers a smoother base to build clay projects around and is a great replacement for tin foil armatures. Due to its durability, Super Sculpey Ultralight™ makes excellent foundations for sculpting projects. When covered with Sculpey® and Sculpey Premo™ clays, the new ultralight clay chemically bonds with the covering material to strengthen the final product.
Clayers love to color Super Sculpey Ultralight™ by mixing it with Sculpey Premo™ or Sculpey III® clays. Our clay floats, also making it ideal for bathtub toys or floating candleholders. Super Sculpey Ultralight™ is the perfect medium for larger ornaments that won't cause tree branches to sag.
Baking Instructions and Working Properties
Bake Super Sculpey Ultralight™ at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes per 1/4-inch of thickness. We suggest using an oven thermometer to ensure your oven is at the correct temperature to avoid over-baking.
After curing, you can carve, drill, sand or paint the clay. Do not use a microwave oven for baking or use the product with a wire or hot knife. Be careful not to exceed recommended baking times, and do not allow the clay to come in contact with an open flame.
Uncured, soft Super Sculpey Ultralight™ should not be placed on varnished or painted surfaces as the clay's plasticizers will dissolve these materials. Uncured Sculpey® clay may also be affected by solvent-based paints. Do not place unbaked clay on fabric, carpeting, plastic, flooring or furniture.
