TCS Classes 200300 Shona Stone Carving Class March

with Ian Knife Fridays 5:30-8:00pm

At our New Location 110 West 19th Street!

Talking To The Stone
Learn the tradition of Shona stone cutting. Come on a trip to a local stone quarry , find a natural stone that speaks to you. Learn to listen to the ringing as you carve .
Eventually this will bring you into a rhythm with stone. This is where the stone will open up and show you all the possibilities and directions to go , then the artist begins to
execute a piece of art that is unplanned and outside of what the imagination could produce, creating Contemporary Shona stone sculptures.
“ Shona Sculpture is perhaps the most important art form to emerge out of Africa in This century “

Studio time during specified hours is included in the class fee, along with one 3 hour class per week with the instructor. Basic tools are included in the class fee. But students will need to purchase their own stone. (Usually between $35-$150) All levels of skill are more than welcome. Please call for more details. Once class has begun there are No refunds.
